Saint Nicholas Abbey out of the Derby
Get a free bet on the Derby with Free Bet Bookmaker. With Saint Nicholas Abbey out of Saturday's Investec Derby, the market has been shaken up. Jan Vermeer is the clear favourite, but with only one race behind him this year, is he worth 13/8? Look elsewhere for real value...
Cape Blanco, winner of the Dante, looks like he might be going in the French Derby, which is, if anything, an indication that Aidan O'Brien might be apprehensive of putting him out at Epsom. O'Brien's lack of a winner since High Chapparal has already got the wiser punter looking down the list, and Godolphin's pair of Al Zir and Rewilding might prove better value. Rewilding is the mount of Frankie Dettori, and has been cut to 8/1. Khalid Abdullah's Bullet Train is another one whose odds have taken a tumble thanks to the withdrawal of St. Nicholas Abbey, and he's now a 7/1 shot. His renewal this year was a good one, so he's on the shortlist.
Unfortunately, there's nothing this year that makes you sit up and say I'm backing this - unlike last year when Sea The Stars was the clear choice. However, that makes it an interesting, open Derby that any one of ten horses could win - so grab yourself a free bet to go with it.
